Dubai Sets Sights on World Domination with New Mega-Airport Terminal

Dubai, the city of extravagance and innovation, has just announced a project that will solidify its position as a global aviation hub. On Sunday, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai, greenlit the construction of a brand new passenger terminal at Al Maktoum International Airport. This isn't your average terminal expansion; this is a game-changer.

The new terminal won't be built at the iconic Dubai International Airport (DXB). Instead, it will be part of Al Maktoum International, which is currently a secondary airport. Sheikh Mohammed's vision seems to be a gradual shift towards Al Maktoum becoming the primary airport, eventually handling all operations. This would allow DXB to potentially transform into a different kind of urban space.

The World's Largest Passenger Terminal

With a price tag of a staggering AED 128 billion (USD 35 billion), this new terminal is set to become the world's largest upon completion. Boasting the capacity of Al Maktoum International Airport to 260 million passengers annually, it dwarfs even the busiest airports in the world. This ambitious project reflects Dubai's vision for the future, anticipating a surge in global travel demand.

It will be five times the size of Dubai International Airport, which is now the world's busiest international airport. The airport will cover 70 square kilometres and have 400 aeroplane gates, five parallel runways, and cutting-edge aviation equipment. It will have the capacity to handle 12 million tonnes of cargo per year. The first phase of the project is planned to be completed within ten years, with a capacity to handle 150 million passengers per year.

Dubai's Vision for the Future

This ambitious project is a testament to Dubai's unwavering commitment to growth and development. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum himself emphasized this vision, stating that the new terminal is "building a new project for generations" and will solidify Dubai's position as a global leader in trade, tourism, and culture.
