The Incident

The Hawaiian Airlines flight, HA42, arrived from Kahului Airport (OGG) in Maui. According to reports, after all passengers had deplaned, the jetbridge numbered A1 suffered a collapse. The specific cause of the collapse is still under investigation.

Damage to the Aircraft

The brunt of the damage fell on the Airbus A321neo's L1 door, the one where the collapsed jetbridge had been connected. The damage was severe enough to ground the aircraft and cancel its return flight, HA41, back to Maui. As of today, May 6th, the A321neo remains at SFO undergoing repairs.

Safety First

The swift deplaning of passengers before the collapse is a testament to the safety procedures in place at airports. This incident highlights the importance of regular maintenance and inspections of jetbridges to prevent such occurrences.

Impact on Passengers

Passengers on the canceled return flight (HA41) were likely rebooked on other flights or accommodated by Hawaiian Airlines.

Investigation Continues

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is likely investigating the cause of the jetbridge collapse. Their findings will be crucial in preventing similar incidents in the future.
